I am pretty sure that every tennis player reading this can think back to a time when they asked a friend or a family member to hit with them. You can also remember when you couldn't find the right time, or they didn't show up, or they did show up but they complained every time they missed a shot. This is why many people turn to the ball machine, it doesn't come late to practice, it doesn't get tired, it doesn't complain, and it's always available. The only question is, how do you practice with it? In this article, I will be talking about the different kinds of drills you can do with the ball machine to improve your game.
Practice your forehand or backhand.
Aim the ball machine to the side you would like to practice (forehand or backhand)
Hit 10 shots crosscourt, then 10 shots down the line.
Switch to the other side and do the same.
Repeat.
Practice forehand and backhand volleys.
Aim the ball machine to the center.
Hit ten volley angles, ten volleys crosscourt, and ten down the line.
Switch to the other side, and do the same thing.
Repeat.
Practice your overheads.
Aim the ball machine to the center.
Adjust the controls for a lob.
Hit ten overheads down the line, and ten overheads crosscourt.
Repeat.
Practice random shots.
Place the ball machine in the center.
Turn on the oscillation (It will send the balls to you randomly)
Try to aim all of the balls either crosscourt or down the line.
Repeat.
